Hoax or helpful? Sometimes you have to find out the hard way
I am the perfect audience for self-care app promotions. I dwell on downloading them for longer than I should, with hopes that the app will be the thing that ultimately helps me change and better myself. Sometimes, there truly is only one way to find out how well these apps work. I’m headed into the research field, and I am happy to report back my findings at the conclusion of this study.
I absolutely love the idea of a self-care app that helps you manage your routines and better your lifestyle. It is difficult to find one that suits all of your needs. Truthfully, I didn’t look very hard in the app store to find which app I am going to try first. I am the person who judges books by their covers, so the cute picture for this app was enough to get me to click. Me+ Lifestyle Routine is the winner! The app has 240,000 ratings, averaging a 4.8, so it makes sense why it was one of the first ones I saw.

During the initial download, the app goes through some detailed questions about what each person needs most. Through these questions, the app determines the best way to obtain the user’s goal. It was a super easy process, and I got things started easily. The app includes tabs across the bottom that allow users to participate in challenges, find information, and scroll through lots of different resources. In the profile tab, the app has an AI assistant that helps upload tasks and create routines. This made it super easy for me to create a cleaning schedule that the app then added to my daily routine. I am typically not a fan of AI, but I feel like this simplifies the process for users and was a good addition to the app. The app also allows you to track your water, mood, and sleep. Overall, the first impression is extremely positive.
Alright, folks, it’s been a week since I wrote the first section of this post. I have officially been using the app for a full week, so here is the weekly review.
Overall, I found the app helpful. It sent me many reminders throughout the day to drink water. I struggle to drink enough water throughout the day. I tend to gravitate towards coffee and energy drinks, so it was helpful to have the notifications that reminded me to drink water. The app also allows you to track how much water you have drunk throughout the day. I did a great job at achieving my water goals the first two days, but I definitely fell off the rest of the week. The app lets you look back and see last week’s results… I will improve this week.
The daily tasks list is fantastic. It is super easy to customize the list, and the inspire tab lets you browse pre-made lists and add them automatically to your daily task list. It uses AI to transfer it, which streamlines the process and makes it way easier than I expected. My lack of discipline shone this week while looking through this. I did not complete most of the daily tasks, even though they were simple tasks to complete. In the moment, I had the guilt of not completing the simple tasks. Writing this now, I regret not completing them. I guess you can say that’s a success. It made me do a lot of self-reflection about why I chose not to complete the tasks. Seeing my laziness laid out in a tiny chart with dots is truly humbling, but in the same breath, inspiring.
This app has so many more features that I have barely been able to start exploring. Throughout the first week, I was impressed enough to purchase the annual subscription. The app did prompt for a sale, so I paid $29.99 for the entire year. It seems a bit wild in the moment to spend $30 on an app, but it covers an entire year. That is less than $3 a month, which sounds significantly more reasonable.
After one week, I think this app has a lot of potential. It is impossible to truly dissect the effectiveness within one week, but I got a decent grasp on its helpfulness. I will continue to utilize this app over the next year, and I will keep you guys updated on the changes and my feelings towards the app as time goes on. Friendly reminder, every person is different. These are my opinions, and they may not align with other people’s opinions. Additionally, I am not an expert in the slightest. I do not have any schooling that makes my opinions any more informed than the general public. I am writing this in hopes of providing insights for others. Feel free to add your opinions and suggestions in the comments as well. I would love to hear other perspectives on self-care apps and what others find works best.
I hope you all have an amazing and productive day. Thank you for taking the time to read this, and I will see you in the next post 🙂
